Restore the rail, keep the frame.
The bottom rail carries the entire weight of a heavy commercial panel on two small wheels. Sand, salt, and constant cycling grind a valley into soft aluminum, and once that valley exists the rollers stop rolling cleanly no matter how new they are.
Capping is the practical fix on an occupied property. We clear the channel, straighten what can be straightened, and fit a stainless cap over the existing rail. The rollers get a hard surface, the frame stays in the wall, and nothing around the opening is disturbed.
On a building we survey every threshold first. Some rails only need clearing, some need capping, and a few are past saving — you get that split in writing so the budget goes where it actually matters.
