Florida Sliding Glass Door Repair
Technician replacing the SGD lock in a sliding glass door
Sliding glass door repair

SGD lock replacement.

The SGD lock is the mechanism hidden inside the edge of your sliding panel, and it is what actually secures the door. When the hook stops grabbing the strike, we replace the lock body and re-align the door so it latches every time.

What we handle

Signs the SGD lock has failed.

  • The latch turns freely and never catches the frame
  • You have to lift, push, or lean on the door to get it to lock
  • The key will not turn, or turns without moving the hook
  • You can see a broken or bent hook in the edge of the panel
  • The lock works some days and not others
  • The door rattles in the frame even when it is locked

Why a sliding door stops locking.

Two things cause most lock failures. The first is the lock body itself: the internal spring or hook wears out and the mechanism no longer throws into the strike. The second is alignment, where worn rollers let the panel sit low so the hook arrives below the strike plate and misses it.

That is why we look at the lock and the door together. We replace the SGD lock with a matching unit, adjust the strike plate, and check the panel height so the hook lands where it should.

A door that will not lock is a security problem, not a cosmetic one. Because our trucks carry locks, this is handled on the same visit as the inspection.
